Japanese food on New Years Day is very traditional and special. The traditional Japanese food eaten on New Years is called ozoni and osechi ryori. Japanese "Shabu-Shabu" is world famous. "Shabu-shabu" is the Japanese word for the sound it supposedly makes when you swish your piece of raw meat back and forth to cook it in the boiling pot of water and vegetables in the center of the table. It is one of the most fun, interactive and delicious Japanese dishes. Shabu-shabu is usually eaten using beef or pork. And each person swishes and cooks their piece of meat in the pot for as long as they want to.

Christmas in Japan is just like any other day as less than 1% of Japanese are Christian. But there is one place that spreads good cheer and makes a lot of money--KFC all known as Kentucky Fried Chicken! It is a Japanese tradition to eat KFC on Christmas in Japan. Most Japanese think this tradition comes from America.
