Alaska is the land of dreams. Alaska Dream is a love story born out of life in a salmon cannery. The story is about a young man from Hawaii, Mark, who wants to experience the physical labor and challenge of working in a salmon cannery in Alaska. There he encounters a community of first-generation immigrant workers from all over the US who migrate to Alaska in the summer to work in the salmon canneries. Mark is assigned to work under the Japanese salmon egg (roe) technicians in the salmon egg room which is the most important and profitable section of the cannery. At first, he is treated very well and kindly by his Japanese superiors, but then things take a turn for the worse when the salmon season begins. He then experiences the long, endless hours, unfair treatment, and the strenuous physical labor of work in the salmon cannery. Yet, within the exhausting and demanding 19+ hours of work each day, he finds true love with a local girl from Cordova, Alaska named Brandy. This is the true story of the human spirit, youthful ideals, and true love. Alaska Dream is based on the actual story of a young man from Hawaii whose dream was to experience Alaska and work in an Alaskan salmon cannery. (Kindle ebook and hard copy print available)
