Mike Matsuno was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He is  Japanese American, a 4th generation yonsei, who has lived in Japan for over 25 years.  In Japan, he has worked as a university professor, a vice president of a company,  an international education consultant, an English instructor, a graduate student, a kayak trainee, a ski hotel bartender, and a free-spirited traveler.  Over the last 20 years, he has devoted himself to international education and has developed unique, innovative study abroad, experiential and exchange programs for university students.  Mike strongly believes in the life changing potential of a study abroad, exchange or overseas experience. When he was younger, he attended eight different types of study abroad programs to Guatemala, Indonesia, Laos, and five other study abroad programs to Japan.  He has two master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Doshisha University in Kyoto (Japan).  Very few people have studied and received a  graduate degree in both the US and Japan, and then later taught as a full-time faculty member at both an American and Japanese university in English and Japanese. Mike has also lived in Alaska for seven years, first as a northern lights tour guide for the Japanese, then as a foreign language and culture instructor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  While he was teaching at UAF, he also owned and ran a bed and breakfast, transportation and tour company, and gift shop.

Since 2015, Mike has done international education consulting for California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and Haddington International Education (HIE) which is based in Dublin, Ireland (http://www.hie.ie).  He was then hired as Vice President for the Japan Study Abroad Foundation (JSAF) which was located in Tokyo.  In addition, he has also advised and facilitated on three different voyages on the Ship for World Youth Global Leaders Program which is managed by the Japan Prime Ministers Cabinet Office (http://swy.international).  Between work assignments, 3-4 times a year, for a month each time, Mike has returned to Honolulu, Hawaii to help his sister care for his Dad and Mom.  His Dad has Parkinson’s disease and his Mom as Alzheimer’s disease.  Mike’s lifelong goals have always been to inspire, educate and entertain people and now works on creating YouTube videos about the three main focuses of his life: life in Japan, caregiving to one's parents, and coordinating study, work and living abroad programs and training. His goal is to make a difference in the world using social media and video as the platform to reach out to people from all over the world.  http://bit.ly/3aNMdrV

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, all study abroad programs and work were cancelled.  Consequently, Mike decided that study abroad would not be a viable area to work in for probably 2-3 years and he returned to the university classroom which was always his forte.  Last fall semester 2020, he taught academic English full time at Kinki University (KinDai) in their International Studies Department.  From this coming April 2021, Mike will be teaching as an adjunct instructor at different Japanese universities.  He will be teaching different courses on business challenges, entrepreneurship, speech and presentation, and academic English writing and listening.  He presently continues to steadily work on his YouTube Channel which focuses on daily life in Japan, with the hope of inspiring, educating and entertaining people in a light and fun way.  Please subscribe to his channel!  :)   http://bit.ly/3aNMdrV
